...that you imagine yourself to be? Developmentally, when children can associate themselves with their name then they are aware of themselves as a person. For modern people to yet be able to call themselves by their own proper names is something of an anomaly. Primitive peoples would laugh at modern usages of people’s names for they inherently understood that knowing one’s own name is no guarantee that that name represents a real person of substance without being a person of real substance.
Today names are perhaps no more than fictitous characters in the employ of business, politics, scholarship, production, or the various forms of social life that people without real identities buy into in order to substitute for simply being one’s self.
