Genuine Consolation

Compunction is much more than simply feeling sorry. It also carries with it an integrated sense that something more truthful has come to light. The heart of compunction holds within itself the solution to that comes with the shocking realization that by continuing to try to run one's own life you are simply continuing to establish your own ego-image more and more firmly. There are many levels of compunction. It is quite possible of course to feel compunction in relationship to self-generated consolation in regard to idealized images of humility which you have created for yourself! But the only consolation that comes from God occurs in regard to the dissolution of all of these laboriously fabricated, ambivalent, and nauseating ploys to retain some level of control over one's life while wanting to appear religious.
