It is important to both study and understand the various models of the human psyche. These lead to a better comprehension of the capacities of human consciousness. However, Christian contemplation does not exclude the manifestation of God in all of its supreme immanence and concreteness both in the world and to humans, neglecting neither the historical nor the present day manifestations of Christ. Contemplation is the open and living participation with the experiences of others who have humbly and thoughtfully walked with Christ on earth. As such it bears a quiet witness to the mystery of the Holy Trinity. It is the opposite of modern consciousness which is impatient, egocentric, and demanding.
