The Ten Words

• I am I AM your God.

• You shall carve/cast no image of me.

• You shall make no directive by invoking my name.

• Be mindful of the seventh day as a day of rest.

• Revere your parents.

• Do not engage in any destructive activity.

• Do not have sexual intercourse with another married person.

• Do not take what is not yours.

• Do not tell falsehoods about others.

• Do not secretly desire that which is not under your own care.

I wonder what these people had experienced in order for these to have been written? What social destruction had been inflicted upon them? What had been confounded in their lives and in the lives of the generations who had gone before them?
