The Point Of No-Beyond

there is this opacity

the point of no-beyond

where patterns

become permanently shaded

and it’s not that

the crime scene has been taped off

so much as that

the glass has been horribly etched from the inside

this beguiling betrayal

makes it hard to see the kind of person you are

although I can hear the lingering shouts of childhood’s decisions

beyond the glass

and to realize this as the greatest source of all sadnesses

that while one might have come to know what occurs

but to have drawn the curtain across this clouded wariness

this quarantined pretension
