The Frantic Steeplechase To Nowhere

Living contemplatively requires no escape from the threats that modern society makes, namely, that without some sort of stimulation one's life will sink into boredom and futility and hence into meaninglessness. It is not out of rebellion that contemplatives do what they do. It is because base reality precisely is by nature contemplative. There is not need to make life more rewarding or more interesting or more enlivening. It already is. There is no agitation, so there is not need for agitated flight from something and to something. And the greatest threat lies in assuming that there must be some sort social mechanism that, once discovered and set in motion by its designers, will removed everyone's problems in spite of the great deal of energy and resources poured into conceiving and constructing this social machinery.
