Resoluteness

It is no accident that the experience of God is accompanied by a sense of resoluteness. Sometimes the sense of peace accompanies it; it should most of the time when we have let go of our selves. But you should never bind the two to one another: God and peace. And you should never confuse a sense of peace for the presence of God. Once we do come to expect the one out of the other we run the risk of refusing to accept God's real work in the world, irregardless of what our feelings may be. But resoluteness is at least an internal indication that our centredness still recognizes our weakness and poverty and evasions and hesitancies and clouded vision, and that we are being reminded that it is only in and through humility that we can be open to God's presence and find the courage to act in accordance with the Word.
