There is nothing that you can assert. There is nothing that you can make happen. There is nothing that you can possess. Because as soon as you try and fashion anything as if it were you own, then you cease to be your self. There is an angel that stands in the midst of a garden. They hold a flaming sword. And no person enters that garden who says, I want, or I need, or I demand. Only absolute repose is able to bring about rest in God. And as soon as you try and make thoughts about it you are forced outside to your exterior self. Yet when you relinquish this false paradigm you find peace not as the world gives. This is a pure gift that no planning or effort can bring about. Simply put, our own activity is an obstacle. What to do? Do not interrupt God. Accept God as God is. Dispose yourself for receiving God by resting at the core of your own poverty. Keep yourself as far away as possible from empty desires that please and preoccupy. Freely, gladly, with thanksgiving, in happiness, and through joy, and least of all with words; be empty and see that I am God. This is what genuinely praises God. It is the gentle wave action that laps upon the shore of our consciousness in a vast surf of unutterable, most-centring praise.
