You live in solitude in order to be directly open to God because it is there that your heart can relax and become open to a new perspective. It is there that you can be open to the Word of God. Jesus recognized this dynamic when he said to 'go into your closet' to pray. It is not meant as an anti-social escape. Instead. More quietly. Without straining. Foregoing force. No being carried away. Leaving aside speculative mental activity, imagination, and creativity. Contemplative living is by definition tied to seclusion in some form or another.
