Not Only In Power, But Mercy, Too

Not magnanimity alone, but humility as well. Not simply in greatness, but in particularized smallnesses. It is easy to become off-balanced when it comes to our perceptions of God.

God is not simply objectively out there. God is also intimately inside of all things created as well.

The more I am drawn into God and come to know God in and through the intimacy and personalism of God’s love, the more I become one with God, and Christ, and the Holy Spirit, not just inside my head, but in the world as well.

There is a point in our lives when we become capable of conscious acts of love. And at that point our lives take a turn where we can either feed the fictions of isolated selfishness or not.

It is when we consent to not build up further layers to our identity that we lay aside our remedial visions of life, which includes the objectification of God.

In truth as long as we are human creatures walking the earth we will never be able to fully receive God’s active mission as it actually works itself out in daily life. And if our plans to please God reflect our own ambitions, then our intentions to engage even in contemplation can become destructive of the beautiful spiritual poverty that is part and parcel of the manner in which God chooses to come to life in each one of us and that is set in context of the greater order that only God knows.
