It is interesting that insofar as people of faith have convinced themselves that if they define their beliefs, and then remain within the confines of those beliefs, that if they occasionally turn their thoughts toward God, that if they do not cause undue disruptions to other people with similar beliefs, that that if they strive for a certain degree of recollection, then in the midst of striving to maintain some sort of equilibrium and balance within the larger jostling of their agitated faith community and society at large, the opportunity for genuine encounter with God recedes in inverse proportion. This only results in people becoming busier, and inventing more futile means to life an increasing distracted life. And no one can do this with impunity and then expect to find God when they finally awaken and decide that such a life is not what they want in the first place.
