Humility And The Love Of God

It is this freedom of the spirit, this liberation from the limits of partial and fragmentary cultural experience and values, that is the kind of maturity that contemplative prayer should produce. It is a call for the breadth and universality of vision that sees everything in the light of unity. This does not involve any concentrated or studied effort but is a dynamic spontaneity that is suggested by Bernard of Clairvaux in his tracts on humility and the love of God.
