Humility

One of the ways in which the world tyrannizes Christ is found precisely in its demand that people explain and justify their lives according to standards that have nothing to do with God. This happens even in the church. These standards are universally unreasonable and are inhuman in the sense that if Christ is indeed risen, then the very essence of life has been transformed. And the only thing left for Christ's followers to do is to in all humility await his guidance, his leadership, day by day, in the moment. This is what Paul described as dying to oneself. Today the emphasis on creativity in the church is anything but humble. It is anything but dying to oneself. It is anything but waiting on God to literally show up and to say, "Faithful slave (the literal meaning of doulos), deny yourself, go there, and do that, even and especially to your detriment." Easter people who have experienced God directly know this and they are not concerned with justifying themselves according to any other standards, especially one's own efficacy.
