God Alone

Creating a context in which we need others to depend upon us means exploiting others for our own benefit. Even carried out passively this amounts to tyranny. Spiritual liberation follows on relaxing our grip on others, letting them get away from us, simply because their dependence does disservice to ourselves. Contemplative prayer humbles us. God alone reigns. And when we allow God to simply and fully live in us it is then that is minted a semblance of God in whose image we are made. We have disposed of our own image's sovereignty by relinquishing it to the royal dignity of God, simultaneously and obscurely keeping alive what real freedom entails. There is no greater witness to the reality, presence, and ongoing work of God.
