Eddies In The Dust Of Rage

To love God means to be inexorably drawn to a point where God alone suffices. The need to win the approval of others, or to find a recognized place in the world, or to achieve temporal ambitions, or to be important, especially in the church, these all become irrelevant. Called to something unique to themselves, yet timelessly undergirded by the Creation itself, life becomes a self-contradiction. Humility and obedience purge self-will as well as spiritual ambition. And total surrender will eventually lead to a hunger and thirst for justice that is beyond oneself, even as love is related to the Beloved.

It is when institutional intrusions frustrate this love that people become compelled to look elsewhere, outside of the pat answers lain out by corporate religion, and the curtains of a window on contemplative love are drawn back.

May God increase such frustrations.
