Driven To Measure And Produce

The church as a whole is filled with people looking for tangible results, people who want to know at the end of the day that they have done something in the service of God. That psychological obsession gears everything around them to set out on tasks that are measurable, and that reassure them of success. Measured by numbers and the clock their imagining of what brings glory to God falls far short of the intimacy that can only be gained by letting go of this false self...of their ego. This drive to perfection and external accomplishment is no substitute for love. There is no doubt that regularity and attentiveness may be reflections of genuine spiritual liberty, but the drive to produce is more often the rule.
