Contemplative living - being absorbed in the love of God and the concrete ability to respond to that love as manifest in the needs of people - these two are not just related, they are inseparable. Caring-intimacy both draws us out of ourselves as well as is fed by our ability to respond to that liveliness. All of this goes well beyond the cultural phenomenons of religion. The dynamism of God’s work in history is nothing other than love that breaks through in a real way into the daily lives of people. Love is not simply a personal experience of grace, openness, and thankfulness, it is the unfailing witness of the fidelity of God to our needs in the material, created world.
