Mature, Simple, Direct, Honest, Fully Human, And Experienced

This does not mean that a mature person never consults anyone else. Contemplation is always contextual. It exists within the broad historical framework of encounters that characterize those who have directly experienced God as self-emptying, humble, servant-people. And it exists within an immediate context of one's own life where it is easy to fool oneself about how humble one is. Mature people always recognize the need for someone who is able to provide a foil to their experiences. However, these mentors are few and one should be severely doubtful of approaching anyone in such a capacity especially if they have official training hung on a shingle outside their door.
