So Eli Told Samuel,“Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

I Samuel 3:9

Within Christianity (as with Judaism) there are people who are born natural, infused contemplatives. They are not mentally unstable. They are not delusional. They are not proud. They seek no attention. This is not about intuition. They do not know how they got this way. It just is. They live quiet lives. And they have come to understand over time that life goes better for them if they simply do not talk about it. Protestantism does not accept this because it has reduced faith to the mental ascent of prescribed standards of thought and behaviour, Catholicism reserves this designation for those few whom it rewards with the official title of religious, although the majority of them are not, and Orthodoxy allows for this only among the brainwashed.

There is no greater harm in the world that can be inflicted upon another person than to deny this reality of the genuine, direct experience of God - as witnessed in the Word - to those who are in fact directly, quietly, and simply addressed by God and are so by birth.
