If you are not in some sense living in a desert, then your life has no practical advantage to living anywhere else on earth. If you are in the end to be finally free of the fictions that others are going to try and sell you, that is, if you going to get beyond the mere substitutions that most non-contemplative religious people make for the psycho-social panhandling that everyone in the world does in order to give their lives meaning, then you have to strip everything down to nothing, with the emphases on: stripping, and everything, and down, and especially, to nothing.
