A Minimum Of Artificiality

Christian contemplative practise has always been seen as a corrective; the goal of solitude is nothing other than the reclamation of that which is most human, direct, and natural. This has nothing to do with doctrines or beliefs, but is centred on simple openness. It is an attempt to extricate oneself from the myths, and fabrications, and fixations that are rolled out for everyone's consideration on a daily basis. Contemplative life seeks to recognize and experience itself through the most basic of lifestyles lived with a minimum of artificiality. And for this reason alone contemplatives are accused of being the most contrived of anyone simply because they do not float away on the immense tide of artificiality along with everyone else.
